Why Three Point Locking Matters

A single-point mortice lock — including the DS2075 — secures the door at one location along its height. Under standard operating conditions, that is sufficient. Under forced entry, it is not.

When lateral or jemmying force is applied to a door secured at one point, the door frame and door panel flex between the lock engagement point and the hinges. The further the force is applied from the lock, the greater the leverage available to an intruder. This is the mechanical vulnerability that single-point locking creates on any hinged security door, regardless of the lock’s individual strength.

Three point locking closes this vulnerability by distributing locking engagement across three points along the door height simultaneously — typically at the centre of the door (the primary DS2075 lock), the top of the door stile, and the bottom of the door stile. When all three points engage the door frame at the same time, the door has no flex gap between engagement points. The lever advantage that makes single-point doors vulnerable disappears when the door is secured along its full height.

This is why three point locking is specified on security screens and barrier doors in commercial, institutional, and higher-security residential applications where a single-point lock represents a known and addressable vulnerability.

Kit Contents and Component Roles

The DS2079 kit contains everything required to convert a DS2075 single-point installation to a three-point perimeter locking system:

• 2 slave locks: The upper and lower locking bolts that engage the door frame at the top and bottom of the door stile when the primary DS2075 lock is operated. The slave locks are driven mechanically by the connecting rods, meaning all three locking points engage and disengage from a single operation of the DS2075 handle. There is no additional action required from the user.
• 2 rods: The connecting rods that transfer the DS2075 lock body’s throw to the slave locks at each end of the door. The rods run inside the door stile between the primary lock and each slave.
• Saddle: The saddle fitting provides the mechanical connection point between the DS2075 lock body and the DS2079 rod and slave lock system.

The saddle and rod configuration is designed specifically for the DS2075 Hinged Barrier Security Door Lock. The DS2079 is not a universal multipoint kit and should not be specified for other lock bodies.

New security screen door installations where a single-point DS2075 specification is being upgraded to multipoint at the time of manufacture.
